Besenyszögért Foundation is a non-profit organization since 1995. Its main purpose is to guide and popularize the material, social and cultural heritage. The Icelandic-Hungarian Cultural Association is our donor partner. In Iceland, cultures live together so that the multiculturalism and the acceptance of each other's culture is the part of the everyday life.
The goal of the project is to investigate the cohabitation, acceptance and tolerance in Iceland in order to the transition between cultures and to decrease prejudices. This investigation may help to decrease the social stress between Romanies and non-Romanies in Hungary by the dissemination of Icelandic good practices. Romany culture is an important part of both the national and the European culture. The main ambition of the project is to start a change in the general opinion of the society by investigating how the different cultures live together in Iceland.
In the Icelandic study trip four Hungarian pedagogues participate. The Icelandic programs are organized by the support of our donor partner, with the participation of a Reykjavík primary school. The programs include a three-day-long school visit, where not only can we learn, but we can observe the practice of such topics like for example the community-strengthening programs of the school organized out of lessons. How do they obviate segregation? Beside this, we take part in the communal courses organized out of lessons, where we can observe how cultures live together. We search for the possibilities for strengthening the dialogue between cultures with our donor partner at professional forums.
This project would help us to strengthen the dialogue between the Romany and non-Romany cultures as we could use the experience we gained by the support of our Icelandic partner and the mentioned Icelandic school.
