The main goal of the Municipality of Siófok was the energetic modernisation of the 3-storey primary school called Vak Bottyán János Primary School and thereby reducing the cost of expenses. School was built in the 1950s. The secondary object was to present project’s elements and results to students, inhabitants and other organizations and to motivate them to follow the good example.

The building’s frontage has got 16 cm, the base 12 cm thick insulation and the building exterior was renewed. The ceiling has got 20 cm thick insulation. On the roof structure of the building has been installed a 27 kilowatt-hour solar energy. The heating system of the school has also been renewed. The outdate heating pipes and radiators were replaced with modern equipments. Building management and energy management system have been developed, it allows remote control of connected mechanical and solar systems and optimized programming of the operation. Staff and teacher capacity improvements were also made to use system and disseminate the results. At the same time the awareness rising of the renewed building’s user students also implemented.

As result of project 460.92 MWh energy saving will be achievable annually and the school’s carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 97.63 tonnes per year.

latest insulation materials, heating system modernization, replacement of doors and windows, implementing a building and energy management system, and using renewable energy through the project supported by EEA Grants.
The school building was connected to the geothermal district heating system of the nearby local spa, and the use of renewable energy contributed to a significant decrease of CO2 emission.
To supply the smaller building, an air-to-water heat pump was installed, for energy efficiency and educational purposes to raise awareness, and also for reasons of economic efficiency.
For the same reason, along with the already realized modernization of lighting systems resulting in a decrease in energy consumption, to achieve an even more significant decrease, a 50 kW solar panel system was installed.
In order to coordinate, control and educate the operation of the whole energy system and energy management system was also established. At the same time the awareness rising of the renewed building’s user students also implemented.
With the total renovation 919.65MWh/year saving is achievable. Due to the project, a 190 t/year decrease will be achieved in CO2 emission.

The specific objective of the project was to renovate and improve energy efficiency of the building of Ady Endre Secondary School, Debrecen. In detail external thermal insulation, replacement of exterior doors and windows, modernization of heating system as well as controlling of lighting system were to be implemented. Solar cells were installed as of using renewable energy resources for the electric power supply of the building. In order to ensure the efficient operation energy management system was established.

By the capacity building activity training was implemented with regards to energy efficient operation and energy-conscious behaviour involving the  the operating staff of the building and of the energy management system (warden) and the teachers of the school.

In order to increase awareness of and education in energy efficiency, a campaign was organised and held to the pupils and teachers of the school as well as the parents, the maintainers of the educational institutions and the local residents.

Within the publicity work package, the wide public were informed on the project start, the progress and the results.

As a result of the project a reduction of CO2-emmission of 127,25 tons per year as well as energy savings of 566,23 MWh per year can be achieved.

The main building and outbuilding of the school had low energy-efficiency, the improper insulation caused high heat-losses in winter, while it got quickly overheated in summer. The project set and reached the following aims:

1. Energy-efficiency improvements:

  • 14 cm facade insulation
  • 15 cm roof insulation
  • replacement of doors and windows
  • Installation of a 32.34 kW solar panel system
  • Engineering: change of pumps, thermostatic valves and pipes

2. Energy management system: installation of an intelligent building management system

3. Capacity building: 10 teachers and 2 maintenance stuff were trained to sufficiently operate the new system

4. Awareness raising activities involved all pupils of the school in drawing, essay writing or presentation making competitions. Through media coverage the public of Zugló was involved and informed about the project.

5. Awareness raising study tour in the field of energy-efficiency: 14 local government professionals and 6 teachers participated on the three days study visit to Oslo and surroundings. They met and had workshops and talks with the notary and environmental referent of the Rygge local government and the director of the local school, the representative of the Federation of the Norwegian Municipalities, the designer of a positive energy balanced office building, representative of a  local awareness raising cultural centre

In order to increase awareness of and education in energy efficiency, a campaign was organized and held for the pupils and teachers of the school as well as the parents, the maintainers of other educational institutions and the local residents.

As a result of the project a reduction of CO2-emission of 127.78 tons per year as well as energy savings of 661.10 MWh per year can be achieved.

In the context of energy efficiency renovation, the main goal of the Vocational Training Center of Tatabánya is the reduction of energy consumption and energy expenditure, as well as to raise awareness among students, teachers and parents, in order to help develop a more energy-intelligent lifestyle.

For the purposes of the project, the building has been insulated. The windows, the main entrance, along with the back doors have been replaced with new, plastic closure systems with insulated glass features, and the entire dome roof has been replaced as well. Complex engineering system modernisation took place, thermostatic radiator valves have been installed, the artificial ventilation is now provided by a new air treatment system, and in order to take advantage of a renewable energy source, the roofing has been equipped with a solar power system.

The investment is supported by a newly created and formed intelligent building management system, which enables monitoring and controlling, the operation and control of electrical switches, the recording of building efficiency data, and optimisation.

Within the framework of the school's capacity building, the operator of the building and the building management system and the teachers was involved to further training.

For the purpose of successful awareness-raising, the students took part in a drawing, essay writing and presentation competition, the best works were displayed in the hall, where a parent teacher meeting took place. During the class-maser’s lessons the students of the school were taught about energy efficiency practices.
